keyboard_arrow_down Set in 1990, a lonely bachelor named David (Brian Landis Folkins) searches for an escape from the day-to-day drudgery of caring for his aging mother (Kathleen Brady). While seeking a partner through a video dating service, he discovers a strange VHS tape called Rent-A-Pal. Hosted by the charming and charismatic Andy (Wil Wheaton), the tape offers him much-needed company, compassion, and friendship. But, Andy's friendship comes at a cost, and David desperately struggles to afford the price of admission.

大龄宅男为了照顾老年痴呆的母亲没有个人生活极度孤独颓废直到爆发的写照。
你不知道当一个人极度孤独失去自我的时候能做出什么。人必须活在社会中。
rentapal只是一个表现这种绝望的媒介。恶魔在人的心中。这个电影不是惊悚片，是个剧情片。
男主演的非常好，层次和张力可以和小丑有的一拼。
形体上的表现也非常好。
4星是这个电影本身太过压抑了，其实可以有深化的空间的，最后沦为惊悚口水片了。...

录像带和现实的互动挺有想法的。影片给出了一种新的神经病的疯癫方式，这比《梦之安魂曲》还要刺激。现实中想必也有这样的人吧！

3.5，超小成本惊悚片，故事还挺完整的，气氛很孤独绝望。讲了一个被生活抛弃的人，被VHS精神控制，最后发狂，的故事。但是惊悚的部分很少，程度也低，对于主人公的境遇也不太容易共情，寂静岭结局。
