本片在当年被视为一部老外拍澳洲的失败之作，无论是澳洲官方还是民间票房表现。而后有了本土影人的澳客电影等，才真正赢来了新浪潮。基本是把1906年版直接现代化了一遍，加上了绿色爱尔兰与共和派的革命元素。在这个方面强化了民族英雄的一面。但角色并不招人喜欢，仍像通篇穿插的民间歌谣一样，是个生活在传说中的人物。
